Opened up the Bogbain Music Café stage and took the slide on the guitar to a whole new level, the guitar bursting at the seems, he put on a first class performance as per usual.
Matt Sillars & Emma Shearer
The two of them have an interesting and unpredictable relationship on stage, keeping the crowd guessing there’s never a dull moment with Emma and Matt on stage. They played a variety of cottin’ pickin blues styles on the guitar and in one of their songs they changed keys three times and I’m not talking about your house keys…. They pulled it off though and the crowd loved it. Matt played guitar with great passion and sang backing vocals and Emma sang from the heart with her powerful yet delicate vocal tones.
Is a wee star!! She’s only 15 and has the vocal capability of someone twice her age, really strong vocals and what can only be described as the new up and coming Adele!! Her guitar playing was very strong and the rhythmic detail kept the audience in suspense, you couldn’t keep your eyes off her!! She is also a stunning singer songwriter who should be recording her own album right now and has plans to record in the future, so watch this space!! Everyone was talking about her at the sessions and a tour is definitely being planned!!
James Brown is Annie
It was Highland Funky Chicken at Bogbain Music Café everyone was in the groove, 8 musicians in one band on stage, you can’t beat it. The band stayed another night in Inverness just to entertain the Bogbain Music Café crowds and engage with the gigging and non gigging musicians to help and inspire up and coming musicians!!
The crowd were so appreciative and an encore was requested at the end of their set, they enjoyed themselves as much as we did!! 2 Soul sisters called the Boylan sisters blew the roof off with their vocal harmonies, the band switched instruments in their set which was interesting, you had the smooth operator on keys, a guy bashing out the conga drums and another guy smacking the drum kit, big bass guitar beats came from cap man, Marvin the bands mascot was sitting on the piano bopping away, 2 lead guitarists and at the end of the session their was 15 musicians enticed on to stage!!!
Friendly looks left, right and centre this group have it all, they funked it up big stylie, groovin’, movin’, never a beat out of sync, the bass was shaking the foundations of the cafe and the band led us in to the blues jam!!
This band was made to play on the big stage and I can’t wait to see them up here again!!
James Brown is Annie kicked off the Blues Jam with a song about popcorn, the Boylan sisters sang a three part vocal harmony with Emma Shearer, Matt Sillars on electric lead guitar, Cameron Hall Gardiner & Ben Hesling on rhythm guitar, then in the next song Caoimhe the Bogbain Music Café singing waitress showed us she can sing blues numbers as well, amazing singer!! Then Ash Mackay came on to the stage and moved up and down a blues scale faster than a golden eagle swooping down a mountain, wow factor!! Everyone got a taste including the audience as to what it’s like to get up and jam till your hearts content, to be spontaneous and let loose, there’s nothing like it!! They’re all hooked now.
