invernessGiGs manages to catch up with Crazy Cottage, before their gig at Mad Hatters, Inverness where they support Kobi Onyame and Damaged Goodz (for further details see Hip-Hop Night at Mad Hatters) on the 30th of of March 2012.
How did Crazy Cottage come about?
Crazy Cottage was created by myself purely alone and without gigs in mind – its just turned out that they enjoy what were doing up here – so its been a blast- and were enjoying the fact that people listen.
The Mad Hatter’s gig will be your biggest gig to date, what are you plans for the band?
Mad Hatters is a big step in the evolution of crazy cottage – we have played a few gigs around Caithness and Inverness – The Newmarket bar,Bfest, The Blackstairs and now were performing in front of bigger acts an crowds with every new gig that comes our way.
What are the pros and cons of being a Hip-Hop act up North?
Lol the pros and cons of being in a hip hop band in the north – well there’s plenty cons and not a lot of pro’s , we’re the only act of this kind our side of inverness , so its vital for us to perform well and push for more gigs like Mad Hatters in and around the bigger venues – we also receive very little opportunities being this far north , but we believe that with hard work and some positive writing , we can move forward onto bigger an better venues ,
What’s your thoughts about the Hip-Hop scene in general now?
We are the hip hop scene in the north – well at least north of Inverness — we were the warm up band for Stanley Odd in Thurso – and this has been the only hip hop band apart from us i have seen this far north — its hard to be part of a new movement when most of the music around where you is guitar based or traditional – sum people just don’t like change, we love change!
You will be playing along side a stalwart of the Scottish Hip-Hop scene in Damaged Goodz and of course the shining light that is Kobi Onyame, how do you feel about playing at the gig and is there an act you are particularly looking forward to?
Playing alongside Kobi Onyame and Damaged Goodz will be a learning curve for crazy cottage – and we will certainly take it in our stride but still were very proud of what we have achieved in a short 2 years – these bands are established and have a large fan base – to follow in the footsteps and to learn from other acts such as Kobi Onyame will be an honour , and a proud night for us ,
How would you convince people to come along to see you play?
Getting people to travel over 100 miles to see us will be a bit of a task – as were a very broke rap outfit – we feel we just need to get the gigs and write the tracks and hopefully this will be good enuff to win over fans from the inverness area – we write songs on real life – our own lives and the struggles within these lives – were as honest as the day is long , and on our day an when were on point – we can make them bounce.
Crazy Cottage would like to thank all involved in putting this gig together – and would also like to thank the people involved for the slot we have been given – we just want to progress within the genre we have chosen and hope to move up to play along side bigger and better acts in the future – our goal to start with is a slot at Belladrum – this would be amazing.
