It’s all been said a million times – politics, integrity, perseverance, uncompromising. Dick Gaughan is more than a troubadour. He’s a movement! And it’s time that yet another new generation experiences  his passion, rage, rancour and occasionally even humour!

Poverty and hardship are central issues for Dick. “I don’t believe in protest, I believe in kicking up hell”. He likens himself to the Latin priest who said “When I say the poor have no bread, you call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no bread, you call me a communist troublemaker”.

Dick’s longevity reaches back to the early 70s through countless solo albums as well as membership of Boys of the Lough, Five Hand Reel and Clan Alba. Born in Glasgow of Scots and Irish descent, his roots, people and their politics are never far from his thoughts. Having said that, and despite the weighty issues it is still a concert amongst friends rather than a lecture. Those who watched Dick at Belladrum 2010 will testify to the majesty and honesty of his performance. He is a (challenging) joy to behold.

Dick will bring his trusty Martin guitar to Inverness Ironworks on Thursday 12 April. As is always the case, he’ll know the first song he is going to play and take it from there. Tickets available via www.ironworksvenue.com .

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me direct at chris@igi.gs
