This August The Northern Meeting Park hosts Summer In The City; four concerts over four days running from Thursday 23rd August. Giants of the music world will descend upon Inverness in the form of the mighty Status Quo, Celtic rockers Runrig, the big band sound of Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra and kicking it all off are leading boy band JLS.

No strangers to the north of Scotland, JLS played to an enthusiastic Victoria Park, home of SPL new boys Ross County, last summer. JLS put on a show that day, and the same can be expected of crowd pleasers, Marvin, Aston, JB and  Oritsé when they take to the stage in Inverness.

JLS first came to the public’s attention when, in the 2008 series of X Factor, under mentor Louis Walsh they were runners-up to Alexandra Burke. Second place, though, was not to become a position they would be associated with. Debut single “Beat Again” and album, the eponymously titled “JLS” both entered their respective charts on release at number one. This was to be the first of five number ones, with “Everybody In Love”, “The Club Is Alive”, “Love You More” and “She Makes Me Wanna” all reaching the top of the pile for the boys. Two albums have also followed with the double platinum “Outta This World” and platinum selling “Jukebox” ensuring that they are never far away from fans hearts.

2009 also saw them become the first X Factor act to pick up, not one but two, Brit Awards; for British Breakthrough and British Single for debut, “Beat Again”. This followed up success and recognition at the 2008 MOBO awards when sweeping up the Best Song and Best Newcomer awards. Never far away from awards ceremonies, JLS are always at their best performing before a live audience. So what could be better than a summer’s evening in front of JLS at the Northern Meeting Park?

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me direct at chris@igi.gs
