We talk to Dylan Tierney as he begins a busy year.

It’s hard to escape talk of Dylan, he’s very much taking those first step in his career but they are both impressive and considered.

It’s worth reminding folk that Dylan is relatively young “[It does mean] I get a lot of attention only being 15 which can be quite cool, but annoying” . Dylan is aware that he has time on his side and intends to use this to develop his skills despite having to balance gigging with school.

For inspiration Dylan looks to Glaswegian Tommy Reilly,  but also lists Noel Gallagher , John Lennon , Jake Bugg  and Bob Dylan. He explains “I look up to them and try learn from their music to help me write” but he’s also keen to note the support of his family who helps keep his motivation to write and also with the moral support having attended every single one of his live gigs.  He certainly has been playing a few gigs since he arrived on the scene, it is his first time at the Eagle and his Market Bar gig that stands out, the opportunity to play in front of bigger crowds is clearly one that he relishes.

One of the forthcoming gigs where he is hoping for an audience is at Liverpool Acoustic Live which he plays in March. The Liverpool date certainly helps raise his profile “I have never played outside of Scotland and to get my name advertised down south is very cool, knowing my name is spreading and getting out there.”

Certainly people have been drawn to Dylan in the virtual world of You Tube, with over 8,000 views of the the Nut Productions produced video for “Do You Ever Think?”. He explains the popularity; “it is a song about a family member who has passed and it relates to everyone really .. and everyone was touched by the song”.

Dylan has big plans for 2013, with a possible return to England but definitely more gigs in Scotland and hopefully a few festivals. He has  a series of dates already booked and a couple of radio performances confirmed, it might be hard to avoid Dylan in the near future.

A lifelong passion for music matched with a geeky fascination for social media and websites resulted in the creation of Inverness Gigs back in 2010. The aim of the site is to help promote, support and generally raise awareness of the local music scene. In fairness fifteen years of being a psychiatric nurse never prepared me for the experiences that we have had over the last few years and the evolution of Inverness Gigs has certainly been a steep learning curve.I currently write (less and less), edit and co-ordinate most of the Inverness Gigs activities.Occasionally seen on Twitter, and  LinkedIn, if you want get in touch you can contact me direct at chris@igi.gs
