We introduce to you The Smokin’ Bugler Band a few question ahead of their forthcoming gigs.

Who are you ?

We are the Smokin’ Bugler Band. We are a 5 piece funk/indie rock band, based in Aberdeen/Glasgow/Dundee.

Our current lineup consists of; David Brown – Lead vocals, Billy Jack – Guitar/backing vocals, Stuart Ledingham (Lenny) – Bass, Ken Ridsdill – Saxophone, and Ben Taylor (Drums).

The band was formed after Billy split from his old band and spoke with David to form a new band in a different musical direction. Ben had previously auditioned for Billys old band and was brought on board to form the core of the group. The band went through a few lineup changes on bass before they settled with their long time rhythm machine Lenny.

The band continued as a 4 piece for a few years before bringing in a second guitar (stevo), unfortunately due to work commitments Stevo had to leave, and the band went off the radar until they could sort out the lineup once again. This time it came in the form of a lead saxophone and is the bands current completed lineup.

What do you do ?

We try to blend different styles into our own sound. We all come from different musical backgrounds but have some similar links. Our drummer is mainly influenced by funk drummers/bands from motown (Tower of Power/Stevie Wonder) to rock and roll bands such as Clutch and Led Zeppelin.

Billy is heavily influenced by Tom Morello of Rage against the Machine, Lenny is a huge fan of classic bands such as Led Zeppelin and The Stone Roses, David is into a wide variety of bands from The Beatles and Fleetwood Mac to The stone Roses and Zeppelin, and Ken is into a lot of jazz and indie music. As a band we try to play to each others strengths to come out with a style of music that best suits us, and that is enjoyable for us all to play.

For fans of…. ?

I would say the music is best suited for people that like catchy riffs and big choruses. It’s a very accessible style that we have so it would be suited for most people.

Where are you going ?

This year is looking to be quite busy for us, we have just come out of the studio recording a small EP, and have a Scottish Tour booked for March. Inbetween those we have a few gigs booked to gig with our newest member on the sax. We also plan on gigging as much as we can, playing with as many people as we can, and get back to the studio to record a full album.

Where can we catch you ?

We are on various social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter (currently setting up an Instagram page) under “The Smokin’ Bugler Band.We are also on Spotify and ITunes. We are playing a number of gigs this year, which will be posted on our Facebook page.
