coffee cup thumb1 Strathpeffer Coffee Shop Film NightThe Coffee Shop in Strathpeffer has long been championing acoustic music with a wide and varied mix of appearances from artists around the world.

The Coffee Shop Film Nights gives the opportunity to a guest musician to provide a soundtrack to a classic silent movie, which combines beautifully with the Coffee Shop’s art deco style  and the bohemian feel of the events.

On the 14th of February former Wolfstone musician and local session guitarist, Andy Murray will be matched with Charlie Chaplin’s 1915 film A Woman. (For the uninitiated (and thank you IMDB) the film is about the adventures of Chaplin which result in both mother, daughter and father (albeit with Chaplin in drag) falling for him). ideal for Valentines day?

Andy will be accompanied by his son and they will both perform a set after the film.

The Monday Night Medicine Show Coffee Shop Sessions are organised on House Concert principles with entry by donation.

combines have become a much anticipated high spot in our music programme. The Coffee Shop is decorated in a Art Deco style and as part of the unique atmosphere of the cafe, classic silent movies are projected onto a permanent screen as customers enjoy their refreshments, with the movies being for sale in the cafe gift shop.

Strathpeffer Coffee Shop Film NightCharlie Chaplin’s 44th Film Released July 12 1915
A Woman was Charlie Chaplin’s ninth film for Essanay Films. It was made in Los Angeles at the Majectic Studio. The film starts with Chaplin meeting Edna (Edna Purviance) and her parents in a park; the mother is played by Marta Golden and the father by Charles Insley. In this film, Chaplin dresses as a woman to fool Edna’s father. It was the third and last time Chaplin played the role of a woman on film. He played a woman in two Keystone films: The Masquerader and A Busy Day.

So what could be better than for the “gentlemen” to invite their favourite woman to come and see Chapline’s “A Woman”  on Valentine’s Day? Or failing that dress as a woman and come your self (that’s an other idea).

Andy will be accompanied by his son, and they will be doing their own set after the film show.
