King Charles is returning to the Highlands to play at the Inverness Ironworks on Sunday, 15th September.

King Charles (1)

King Charles is a singer-songwriter from West London who dabbles in a bit of “alternative surf rock” music. He started to write at the age of 17, and by 2009 he became the first ever British person to win the International Songwriting Competition, by unanimous vote, for his song ‘Love Lust’.

After studying sociology for two terms at Durham University, Charles returned to London in 2007, adopted the pseudonym King Charles, and formed a band, Adventure Playground. They then went on to tour with Laura Marling and Noah and the Whale before disbanding in 2008.

Since then, Charles has gone on to record his debut album ‘Loveblood’ which was released in 2012 and has toured alongside Mumford and Sons around the UK and The United States.

It promises to be an impressive show, made more so by the inclusion of strong local support from Silver Coast and The Whiskys.

Ever since I could understand it, I have been fascinated by the English language. It connects us, yet is also a key factor in defining us all as individuals. Combining my interest in journalism and my passion for music had always been something of a dream for me. I spent much of my teenage years travelling round the country to go to gigs, then would write up short pieces to be kept in a scrapbook of memories. Since being given the opportunity to start writing for Inverness Gigs around six months ago, I have developed my skills and passion further. I have interviewed some of Scotland’s up and coming artists, I was part of the team providing extensive coverage of this year’s Belladrum festival, I regularly attend gigs around the local area - helping to provide support to the many high quality bands around, as well as having the opportunity to review some of the higher profile shows.
