Sarah Williamson had a busy weekend at Bella (you can read about her own diary of the weekend here), playing a fair few slots which included the Free Range Folk Stage on Saturday afternoon.

Sarah is the former singer of local band Shaped who played Belladrum 2014. A year later Sarah has returned as a solo artist. Had Sarah been taking to the stage 30 years ago it could be said that  she would have fitted into the NME C86 era with her pop punky sound coupled with unflinchingly honest, confessional lyrics however things have moved on a lot since then and now this kind of sound set to a modern backdrop comes as a refreshing change.

Since the last time I saw Sarah, I feel like she’s become much more at ease on stage, excitedly chatting away to the crowd and introducing some of her darkly humorous songs with blunt honesty. Sarah started with one of her many original songs One Man Band and a cover of Britney Spears’ Hit Me Baby One More Time. There was also a new song Front Porch Step went down well with the folk at the free range stage. Sarah will be supporting John Otway at Mad Hatters on August 23rd.
