The Proclaimers to play Inverness Leisure in November.

Another day and another gig announcement for 2018 in Inverness. Building on what’s already becoming a strong year for Inverness, The Proclaimers are the latest act to be added to an impressive roster of concerts in and around the city.

In case you didn’t already know, The Proclaimers are composed of the identical twin brothers Charlie and Craig Reid and are probably best known for their songs “>I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”, “Sunshine on Leith”, “I’m On My Way” and “Letter from America”. They’ve inspired a musical, become the backing track for innumerable football and rugby matches, struck Gold and Platinum with their first two albums and been a part of the Independence movement… like them or loathe them they’re well and truly ingrained in Scottish culture.Ten albums later and they’ve rightfully earned the moniker of ‘guaranteed crowd pleasers’ and the Leisure Centre concert is bound to be a sell-out.

“The one thing is that we enjoy doing it” explains Craig in our interview with them from 2012, “we still write new songs and make new records and especially we want to play shows. I think we do what we do and we don’t do it with reference to anybody else”.

Strikingly individual, The Proclaimers have over the years enjoyed huge success across the globe as the emotional honesty, wit and sing-along raucousness of their songs and their extensive touring has enlightened and entertained fans new and old. They’re another act who will be more than familiar with those of us in the Highlands and over the years they’ve entertained us from venues as diverse as a marquee tent in Bught Park as part of The Highland Games, Belladrum (read our skeptics perspective of their 2015 headline slot) and even the Market Bar right back at the beginning of it all.

The Proclaimers play Inverness Leisure Centre, as part of The Proclaimers UK & Ireland Tour 2018, on the 23rd of November, 2018

I've always loved music and spent my late teens and early twenties playing guitar in various bands on Lewis and Aberdeen. Other than playing in some truly terrifying pubs in Aberdeen not much came of it and life became focused on family and having a 'proper' job. Inverness Gigs is an outlet for me to quell my inner frustrated musician and the caliber of local acts has even inspired me to take my own music more seriously again. Who knows, one day I might venture back on stage under the fierce scrutiny of an Inverness Gigs reviewer! You can contact Toby direct at
