We look at Spoke Too Soon release, ‘Standing on the Edge’.

It has been a long 5 years since Scottish pop punkers Spoke Too Soon burst on to the scene by winning the Highlands Battle of the Bands and released their debut EP Staring at the wall. Since then they haven’t been sitting twiddling their thumbs, they have been going out and honing their craft with energetic and in your face live performances, which they have been using to put their all in to their new EP Standing on the Edge.

With a delightfully raucous collection of tracks, each bringing something different to the table, STS prove they are back and will not be ignored. Each track on the EP has great hooks and catchy lyrics that you can not help sing along to after one listen.

The first track on the EP is ‘Yesterday (Would You Mind)’ and this is just a perfect pop punk song that sets off the EP in great fashion. Lead single ‘What You Want’ encapsulates everything the band is about, fast paced, energetic and to the point. ‘Carnivals’ is a hard hitting rock rollercoaster that shows the progression with their live performances since the first EP. Life is takes on a more pop punk sound, which has the potential to go very far and is a great way to finish the EP off.

Personally I found it really hard to find a stand out track from the bands second outing, with maybe ‘Life Is’ or ‘Yesterday’ just gaining the lead, but all in all this EP is a brilliantly crafted piece of work and one that you will be listening to with nothing but enjoyment.
